Maintenance Officer

Barcoo Multi-Purpose Site - Blackall

Permanent Part Time - 25–30 hours per week

Are you the kind of person who spots a fix before anyone else does? We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Maintenance Officer to join our team at the Barcoo Multi-Purpose Site.

This isn't a "stuck behind a desk" kind of job. If you love being outdoors, getting your hands dirty, and taking genuine pride in seeing a job done well, this role is a great fit. You’ll be the one ensuring our gardens are thriving and our facilities are safe, functional, and inviting for our residents and the community.

Every day is a bit different here. One morning you might be shaping hedges, and the next you’re handling a quick repair to keep things running smoothly. We’re looking for someone who brings a bit of common sense, a positive attitude, and a real willingness to help.

In this role, you will:

  • Bring the outdoors to life: Look after our gardens by trimming, pruning, mulching, and keeping our plants healthy.
  • Keep things tidy: Ensure our paths, common areas, and outdoor spaces are safe, weed-free, and well-presented.
  • Handle general maintenance: Use your practical trade skills to carry out repairs and keep our building in great shape.
  • Stay proactive: Follow our maintenance schedule so that problems are fixed before they become bigger issues.
  • Support the team: Be a helpful pair of hands for day-to-day tasks as they pop up.

This role really suits someone who enjoys variety and understands that a well-maintained environment makes a world of difference to the people living and working here.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Practical experience: A background in maintenance, handyman work, or groundskeeping.
  • Essential tickets: Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Safety awareness: A solid understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS), or a willingness to get certified within your first month.
  • A driver’s licence: Essential for getting around.
  • The right attitude: You’re someone who aligns with our values of Integrity, Compassion, Excellence, and Courage.
  • Relevant experience: Previous experience in aged care or community services is a huge bonus, but not a dealbreaker.
  • Legal work rights: You must hold valid Australian work rights, as we are unable to provide sponsorship for this role.

Employee Benefits
As a not-for-profit, we can offer salary packaging of up to $18,549 p.a. tax-free, which can really help boost your take-home pay.

You’ll also enjoy:

  • Generous annual leave.
  • An Employee Assistance Program to support your wellbeing.
  • A genuinely supportive work culture.
  • Discounts at a variety of retail outlets.
