Assistant Accountant

  • Hands on accounting role supporting core finance operations and stakeholder outcomes.

Are you an experienced Assistant Accountant who enjoys delivering accurate financial outcomes, supporting stakeholders, and contributing to a high-performing finance function?

This role sits within our Financial Accounting team and provides routine accounting and business support across the organisation. Working closely with the Senior Financial accountant, you’ll play a key role in month-end processes, reconciliations, reporting, audits, and responding to finance queries, while contributing to continuous improvement and strong financial governance.

This is a practical, team-oriented role ideal for someone who enjoys balancing detailed accounting work with collaboration and service delivery in a mission-driven organisation.

What You Will Do:

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including subsidiary systems, nominated expense accounts, accruals and journals as part of month-end processes.
  • Contribute to monthly and annual reporting, including analysing data, preparing schedules, commentary and supporting seniors care reporting.
  • Provide accounting and business support, including budgeting assistance, financial records and ad hoc reporting.
  • Oversee, respond to and allocate finance queries via the Support Desk.
  • Provide accounting support to reporting entities and service support managers.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, identifying non-compliance issues and recommending improvements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance finance processes and service delivery.
  • Assist with system implementation projects, including data preparation, testing, validation, and process documentation.

About You:

You are a detail-oriented and collaborative accounting professional who takes pride in delivering accurate work and supporting others. You’re comfortable working with complexity, managing competing priorities, and applying sound judgement in a dynamic environment.

You bring:

  • A degree or advanced diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Solid experience in financial or business accounting.
  • Experience preparing reconciliations, journals and supporting month-end processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and explain financial information.
  • Intermediate to strong skills in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
  • Well-developed communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
  • Experience in not-for-profit, aged care, or community services (highly regarded but not essential).
  • Experience with Power BI and D365 is desirable.
