At Churches of Christ, we have opportunities for dedicated Support Practitioner – First Nations to join our Children, Youth & Families team in Bundamba.
In this Identified role, you'll be instrumental in delivering culturally safe, compassionate care, inclusive, and empowering services to First Nations communities, helping to break the cycle of over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care.
What You'll Do
Case management: manage and tailor support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families.
Comprehensive Assessments: Conduct thorough assessments of children, young people, and families to identify strengths, needs, and risks.
Individualised Care Planning: Develop and implement tailored care plans in collaboration with clients and stakeholders.
Crisis Intervention: Provide timely support during crises to ensure safety and stability.
Advocacy: Advocate for clients to access necessary resources and services.
Skill Development: Facilitate evidence-based parenting programs and workshops.
Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external agencies to coordinate care and network with local First Nations Services.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with organisational standards.
Cultural Sensitivity: Ensure services are culturally safe and inclusive, respecting the diverse backgrounds of clients.
Service support: Provide support and guidance to staff who support First Nations families and young people.
What You'll Need
Identified roles: This role is an "Identified Position" and that being an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
Understanding: knowledge of contemporary challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Qualifications: Degree in social work, psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: Demonstrated experience in child protection, family support, or community services.
Knowledge: Understanding of child protection legislation and out-of-home care frameworks.
Skills: Strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Cultural Competence: Ability to work effectively with diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Essential:
Possess a National Police Check,
Working with Children (Blue Card),
Licensed Care Service (Child Protection) or the ability to acquire.

Not for profit salary packaging up to $18,549 which could be used for up to $15,900 (for common living expenses like rent, mortgage, school fees and many more) and up to $2,650 for meals and entertainment.
