Youth Worker - About the role

Casual Hervey Bay

Here at Churches of Christ, we help more than 2,200 Queensland families to become happier, safer, healthier, and stronger through our intervention and support services.

As a Youth Worker, you will work directly with young people and their Carers in Foster and Residential Care. Your role will vary day to day and will be essential supporting young people with every day life, like getting to and from school, attending appointments or after school activities.

You will have a daily impact in their lives, promote stability and encourage personal growth and learning for young people.

You will join a collaborative team of youth workers across our locations dedicated to supporting young people, carers, and families.

There is an opportunity to take on additional work during school holidays, and while weekend shifts are required, they will not be every weekend.

About you 

You will be enthusiastic about the welfare of children and achieving the absolute best outcomes for them.

You are known as being able to offer patience, trust, resilience, flexibility and humour and can easily build rapport with people.

You will really thrive on the day-to-day life of your people and bring a caring, positive confidence to the lives of young people.

You will need to be organised and able to communicate with carers and solve problems, and potential crisis management, as they come up.

You will bring to the role: 

  • Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Invention or Certificate III Community Services, or equivalent and relevant experience with a willingness to participate in further training.
  • One years’ experience working with children, young people and families in a child protection or community service context. • Demonstrated ability to be a positive role model with children and young people, including engaging and building relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the contemporary challenges for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Current Driver’s Licence – Minimum P2
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a National Police Check, Blue Card (Working with Children), and a Licensed Care Services (LCS).
