Youth Worker - About the role

Here at Churches of Christ, we help more than 2,200 Queensland families to become happier, safer, healthier, and stronger through our intervention and support services.

As a Youth Worker, you will work directly with Young People who receive a service from Next Step Plus (NSP) or Extended Post Care (EPCS). Your role will vary day to day and will be essential supporting young people with everyday life and goal setting for the future.

You will have a daily impact in their lives, promote stability and encourage personal growth and learning for young people.

You will join a collaborative team of Support Practitioners, Support Specialists and onsite Team Leader dedicated to supporting young people, carers, and families. 

About you 

You will be enthusiastic about the welfare of children and young people and achieving the absolute best outcomes for them. 

You are known as being able to offer patience, trust, resilience, flexibility and humour and can easily build rapport with people.

You will really thrive on the day-to-day life of your people and bring a caring, positive confidence to the lives of young people.

You will need to be organised and able to communicate with Young People and Stakeholders and solve problems, and potential crisis management, as they come up. 

You will bring to the role: 

  • A Certificate 3 in a relevant youth work or child welfare course or enrolled and working towards completion. 
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge working in residential care; and/or working with young people in a child protection or community service context.
  • Solid experience working with young people who have significant emotional and psychological support needs.
  • A current driver’s licence (P2 minimum) is required for the role.

Essential for the role.

Child Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Our robust screening and recruitment processes help ensure we engage the right people to support children and young people. This role will require the following to be obtained before commencing:

  • Possess a National Police Check,
  • Working with Children (Blue Card),
  • Licensed Care Service (Child Protection) or the ability to acquire.
