Service Manager - Children, Youth and Families

Are you a passionate and experienced Service Manager with experiences in children, youth, fostering or family services?

This is a leadership role that will inspire our Children, Youth and Families teams in Townsville and Mackay. The role can be based in either location and will see regular travel between the two locations whilst overseeing the delivery of services that empower children, young people, and their families.

About the Role

With the support of our amazing teams in Townsville and Mackay that provide support across the region, you will ensure the commercial and safe operations of the services, whilst building connections with our communities to continue our delivery of holistic support to vulnerable families and children.

You’ll work closely with a passionate team to ensure compliance with legislative standards, drive service innovation, and promote a culture of care and excellence.

The service supports Foster and Kinship Care programs and a Counselling & Intervention service, as well as offering culturally responsive and community-focused care solutions.

In this role as Service Manager, you will:

  • Oversee daily Children, Youth and Fostering service operations, meeting client and organisational standards, managing feedback, and identifying support opportunities.
  • Develop business cases and funding applications and rostering plans while actively engaging in benchmarking to meet service targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with funding bodies, stakeholders, and partners, and lead negotiations for contracts and funding agreements.
  • Manage service budgets, ensuring financial targets are met, and provide accurate financial reports on time.
  • Create a culturally safe environment, working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to address over-representation in care.
  • Lead a diverse team, ensuring alignment with organisational strategies and fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and adhere to legislative and regulatory requirements in service delivery.

What You Will Bring:

You’re an experienced and values-driven leader with a background in social welfare and child protection. With sound financial acumen, technical proficiency, and a collaborative approach, you’re ready to lead a team and make a meaningful impact.

To be considered for the role, you will also have:

  • Mandatory degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, or other related discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in child protection, youth services or family support work.
  • Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks related children, youth and family services.
  • Experiences in financial management and budgeting.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to operational sites regularly.
  • Proven ability to identify business development opportunities, operating model requirements, and customer experience improvements.

  • Child Safety Screening (LCS)
  • National Personal Insolvency Check
